ADPH launches COVID-19 Vaccination Eligibility Check and Scheduling Portal

February 2, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Karen Landers, M.D., (256) 383-1231

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has launched an online portal for individuals to check their eligibility for vaccination and make appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations at county health departments. The easy-to-navigate portal also provides up-to-date information about additional drive-through and walk-in clinics being offered. The portal can be accessed at https://www.alcovidvaccine.gov/

By entering information in the portal, individuals can confirm their eligibility, select a county where they intend to schedule their vaccination, and indicate if they want to be notified if interested in receiving an e-mail when the vaccine becomes available for additional priority groups. Information about the vaccine product itself and what to expect is also provided.

There are links to click to view a complete list of vaccine providers in the state and other information on the Alabama COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Dashboard. The portal also provides practical information for the people scheduled, such as what they should bring, mask requirements, and a vaccine fact sheet.

The demand for vaccine continues to greatly exceed supply as Alabama has more than 326,000 healthcare workers and nearly 350,000 people who now qualify for a vaccine because they are 75 years of age or older. On February 8, the addition of people 65 or older and frontline critical workers will add over 1 million more people that are eligible to receive a vaccine.

Sites listed in the portal have limited supply of vaccine available. Current assessment of vaccine supply and expectations for shipments over the next month indicate that many public health clinics will have to focus heavily on providing second doses for the month of February. As appointments may not be available immediately, the limitation of appointments is directly related to the amount of vaccine provided by the federal government. If supply of vaccine products from the federal government increases, ADPH expects that access to appointments for priority groups will increase as well. Individuals are encouraged to visit drive-through and walk-in clinics, or other vaccine providers, if appointments are not currently available at a county health department location.

Alabama’s COVID-19 Vaccination Allocation Plan, which can be viewed by clicking a box on the dashboard, was developed by working with stakeholders and following guidance provided by the federal government. For general information about COVID-19, the COVID-19 Information Hotline number is 1-800-270-7268.

MICHAEL M. MCMILLAN
March 14, 2020

Regarding COVID-19

The Governor of the State of Alabama, Kay Ivey, on recommendation of the State Health Officer and pursuant to the Alabama Emergency Management Act of 1955, as amended, has declared that a state public health emergency exists in the State of Alabama based on the potential widespread exposure to the 2019 novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.  As a result, emergency action plans and procedures are being executed through the state as needed.

I am issuing this statement regarding the City of Spanish Fort’s response to the COVID-19 virus.  We are in contact with and coordinating with the Governor’s office, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency and all other state and local agencies and officials.

The Baldwin County Board of Education has announced that the last day of school in Baldwin County will be Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  Baldwin County Public School students will be out of school starting March 19 through April 12 to include the regularly scheduled spring break.  As a result, all Alabama High School Athletic Association events have been cancelled for the next two and a half weeks.

Based on the foregoing, the City of Spanish Fort is taking the following actions.  City Hall will maintain normal business hours to conduct City business and assist the members of our community during this time.  All Spanish Fort youth league athletic events will be postponed until further notice, effective Wednesday, March 18.  All people are urged to listen to information issued by the appropriate agencies regarding protective measures and procedures to follow.  Price gouging and consumer fraud is illegal.  Please report any illegal conduct to the appropriate agencies.  We will provide updates as needed regarding actions taken by the City and services and events management.

We are blessed to live in this wonderful place and community of people.  While it is appropriate to take protective measures to keep separation between us until the threat of this virus has passed, it does not mean we are “separated” or alone.  Please take time to safely check on family, friends and neighbors.  In particular, call and check on the elderly and those who live alone.

If you need us, we are here for you.  If you need assistance, please contact City Hall or the appropriate agency for help.  As stated above we will be providing updates as deemed necessary.

God Bless You!

Michael M. McMillan
Mayor
